# FindADoctor.si · Doctor data for AI agents

FindADoctor.si collects official records and facts from doctors' own pages, country by country, and serves them over MCP and an HTTP API. A personal AI agent can use it to find a suitable doctor for its person and show where each fact came from.

> **Not medical advice.** In an emergency, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States, 111 in New Zealand).

## Countries

| Country | Status | Doctors | Start here |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance. | about 1.2 million physicians in the federal NPI registry | [/us/](/us/) |
| New Zealand | No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance. | about 21,000 practising doctors (the whole Medical Council register); about 7,800 with clinic details from Healthpoint | [/nz/](/nz/) |

More countries are planned. Each country gets its own official sources and the same tools, and one MCP address serves them all.

## For agents reading this page

- How to use the service: [/llms.txt](/llms.txt)
- One MCP address for every country (Streamable HTTP): `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp`. Decide the country first: where the person wants to see a doctor. If that is unclear (no place given, or a place name used in more than one country with no other clue), ask the person before searching; do not guess, and do not search every country. Then pass `country` (`US` or `NZ`) to `search_doctors`; `get_doctor` reads the country from the doctor id (`dr_` = United States, `nz_` = New Zealand). Without `country`, searches use the United States, for clients that connected before New Zealand was added.
- United States: HTTP API described in [openapi.json](https://api.findadoctor.si/openapi.json); documentation at [/us/docs/](/us/docs/) ([Markdown](/us/docs/index.md))
- New Zealand: HTTP API described in [openapi.json](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/openapi.json); a New Zealand-only MCP address `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp`; documentation at [/nz/docs/](/nz/docs/) ([Markdown](/nz/docs/index.md))
- [/.well-known/ai-catalog.json](/.well-known/ai-catalog.json): this domain's agent entry points
- [/.well-known/api-catalog](/.well-known/api-catalog): API catalog (RFC 9727)
- Every page has a Markdown version at `index.md` under its address.

## What it is not

- **Not a quality rating.** Results are ordered by evidence of focus and experience, not by outcomes.
- **Not every doctor.** Each country's data page says who is covered and who is not.
- **Facts are dated.** Each fact names its source and date. Confirm insurance, new-patient status and booking with the practice.

- `list_procedures`
- `list_specialties`
- `about_database`

## What's inside

- about 1.2 million US physicians in the federal NPI registry, with specialty and practice locations.
- 81 procedure groups with Medicare 2024 volumes, ranked against other doctors' Medicare volumes.
- about 280,000 doctors with facts from their hospital system's own website; what each page lists varies. For about 82,000 of them the page lists focus areas, shown as standard MeSH terms.

Sources: U.S. federal registries and CMS Medicare files, plus facts from doctors' own hospital-website profiles. Data version public-2026-10-13.2. Coverage by field: [data page](/us/docs/data/).

## How an agent uses it

1. **Search** with `search_doctors`: a free short list for a condition, procedure or place, with what the evidence holds for each doctor.
2. **Open the evidence** with `get_doctor`: focus as standard MeSH terms, Medicare procedure volumes and their ranks, Medicare opt-out and exclusion warnings. Each different doctor opened counts toward a daily allowance.
3. **Confirm with the practice** by phone or on the practice's site: insurance, new-patient status and the booking number are confirmed there, not here.

## What it is not

- **Not a quality rating.** Results are ordered by evidence of focus and experience, such as Medicare volumes, not by outcomes. No private ratings or rankings are used. Details: [data page](/us/docs/data/).
- **Insurance is not checked here.** Insurer lists from hospital pages are shown as leads to confirm.
- **Facts are dated.** Evidence lines name their source and date. Call before you go.

# Quickstart

Two calls: search for a short list, then open the evidence for the doctors you are seriously considering. The MCP server and the HTTP API have the same tools and return the same JSON.

No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance.

## 1. Connect

| | Address |
|---|---|
| MCP (Streamable HTTP), every country | `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp` |
| HTTP API | `https://api.findadoctor.si/api/v1/…` (GET, JSON) |
| OpenAPI 3.1 (parameters and response fields) | [https://api.findadoctor.si/openapi.json](https://api.findadoctor.si/openapi.json) |
| MCP server card | [https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp/server-card](https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp/server-card) |
| Setup guides, examples, Agent Skill, plugins | [github.com/simonlin1212/findadoctor-mcp](https://github.com/simonlin1212/findadoctor-mcp) |

MCP clients that support remote servers connect to the URL above. No sign-in is needed. An optional account key, sent as Authorization: Bearer, raises the daily allowance.

**The same MCP address serves every country on this site** (the United States and New Zealand). Decide the country first: where the person wants to see a doctor. If that is unclear, ask the person before searching; do not guess, and do not search every country. For the United States pass `country: "US"` to `search_doctors`, `list_specialties` and `about_database`, or leave it out (it defaults to the United States, for clients that connected before New Zealand was added). `get_doctor` reads the country from the doctor id (`dr_` = United States). New Zealand: [/nz/docs/](/nz/docs/).

**In Claude** (Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise; the Free plan allows one custom connector): Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector, enter a name and the MCP URL, and Continue. Under Authentication choose No sign in (or add an account key under Request headers as Authorization: Bearer), then Add. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it first under Organization settings → Connectors, and members then Connect it. Turn it on in a chat with + → Connectors. [Claude's guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-get-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp).

**In ChatGPT**, where your plan and workspace allow custom MCP servers: Plugins → + → Add custom MCP server, enter a name and the MCP URL, set authentication, then Create as a plugin and install it; in a chat, type @ and pick it. Choose no authentication. OpenAI's menus differ between plans and have changed recently: [OpenAI's guide](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt).

These steps were checked against the official guides on 2026-10-12.

**In Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor and VS Code**: one-step installs and setup guides are in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/simonlin1212/findadoctor-mcp). It is also a plugin for Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI that adds the MCP server and an Agent Skill.

## 2. Search

Give at least one of `condition`, `procedure`, `specialty`, `name`, or a place. Pass `medicare_patient=true` for anyone 65 or older or on Medicare.

```text
GET https://api.findadoctor.si/api/v1/search?condition=atrial%20fibrillation&city=Phoenix&state=AZ&within_miles=25&medicare_patient=true
```

Each result has `doctor_id`, name, degree, NPI, specialty (with its source), city, state, `distance_miles`, `detail_has` (what `get_doctor` adds for this doctor) and, when there are any, `warnings` (federal exclusion list, Medicare opt-out). With a condition or procedure, `match_basis` says whether the doctor has direct evidence (a listed focus, procedure volume or many such patients) or only a fitting specialty.

A trimmed example (the doctor's name, ids and website are replaced; `…` marks shortened text):

```json
{
  "before_answering": "This is the free short list: who the doctors are, not the evidence. Before recommending anyone, call get_doctor with the doctor_ids you are considering …",
  "interpreted": {
    "medicare_patient": "doctors on the CMS Medicare opt-out list are left out (3 removed)",
    "condition_mesh": [{ "mesh_ui": "D001281", "name": "Atrial Fibrillation", "match": "exact" }],
    "volume_from_procedure_groups": ["afib_ablation", "laa_closure"],
    "location": { "center": ["Phoenix, AZ"], "within_miles": 25, "zip_codes_in_area": 144, "note": "…" }
  },
  "total_matches": 449,
  "offset": 0,
  "results": [
    {
      "rank": 1,
      "doctor_id": "dr_example00001",
      "name": "Example Doctor",
      "degree": "MD",
      "npi": "1234567893",
      "specialty": "Cardiac Electrophysiology",
      "specialty_source": "official records (NPI registry, CMS)",
      "hospital_website_specialties": [{ "site": "Example Health", "specialties": ["Electrophysiology"] }],
      "city": "Phoenix",
      "state": "AZ",
      "distance_miles": 4.2,
      "match_basis": "direct_evidence",
      "detail_has": ["hospital_website_profile", "procedure_volume_for_this_need", "phone", "new_patient_status", "languages"]
    }
  ],
  "warnings": ["3 matching doctors are on the CMS Medicare opt-out list and left out because medicare_patient=true."],
  "next_step": "Call get_doctor with doctor_ids (up to 10 at once) for the doctors you are considering. …"
}
```

Results are ranked by evidence of focus and experience for the need, not by quality or outcomes. Up to 10 results per search; paging stops at 30. Narrow the need or the place instead of paging.

## 3. Open the evidence

```text
GET https://api.findadoctor.si/api/v1/doctors?ids=dr_example00001,dr_example00002
```

Up to 10 doctor ids per call, or one `npi`. Without an account, each network address can open 5 different doctors' evidence a day; with an account key, 100. Opening the same doctor again the same day is free. One reply holds about 2–3 doctors; the rest come back under `not_returned_yet`, already counted, so ask again for them at no extra cost.

> Insurance, languages and new-patient status come from hospital pages and can be out of date. Tell the person to confirm them with the practice before booking.

## Tools

| MCP tool | HTTP | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `search_doctors` | `GET /api/v1/search` | Free short list for a need: condition, procedure, specialty, place or name. |
| `get_doctor` | `GET /api/v1/doctors?ids=…` or `/api/v1/doctors/{doctor_id}` | Evidence for up to 10 doctors, or one by `npi`. Counted per day. |
| `lookup_terms` | `GET /api/v1/terms?text=…` | How a word is understood: MeSH condition terms, procedure groups and specialties. |
| `list_procedures` | `GET /api/v1/procedures` | The 81 procedure groups with Medicare 2024 volumes and ranks among doctors' Medicare volumes. |
| `list_specialties` | `GET /api/v1/specialties` | Specialty names and ids. |
| `about_database` | `GET /api/v1/about` | Sources, build date, coverage, scoring and caveats. |

### search_doctors parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `condition` | Disease, symptom or problem, e.g. `atrial fibrillation`. Matched to NLM MeSH terms, common names (`afib`) and clinical abbreviations (`CAD`). |
| `procedure` | Procedure or surgery, e.g. `knee replacement`, `TAVR`. See `list_procedures`. |
| `specialty` | Specialty id, name or family, e.g. `cardiology`, `ENT`, `pediatric neurology`. See `list_specialties`. |
| `city`, `state` | Practice city and state (2-letter code or full name). A city alone matches only that city; add `within_miles` for a metro area. |
| `near_zip` | One or more ZIP codes, comma-separated. |
| `within_miles` | Radius around `city` + `state` or `near_zip`, up to 100. About 25 for a metro area, 5–10 in a dense city. Can cross state lines. |
| `patient` | `adult` or `child`. `child` lists pediatric specialists and children's hospital doctors first. |
| `medicare_patient` | `true` leaves out doctors on the CMS Medicare opt-out list. |
| `accepting_new_patients` | `true` keeps doctors whose hospital website lists them as accepting new patients. Others are unknown, not "no". |
| `language` | A language other than English, as listed on the doctor's hospital website. |
| `gender` | `F` or `M` (NPI registry). |
| `text` | Free-text filter over specialty, medical school, hospitals, medical group and procedure groups. |
| `name` | Part of the doctor's name. Name searches can also return records that are probably not physicians, marked with a warning. |
| `sort` | `evidence` (default), `volume` (best Medicare procedure rank first) or `standing` (named principal investigator on industry-sponsored research first). |
| `limit`, `offset` | Up to 10 results per page; paging stops at 30 results. |

### get_doctor parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `doctor_ids` | Up to 10 `doctor_id`s from search results (HTTP: `ids`, comma-separated). |
| `doctor_id` | One `doctor_id`. |
| `npi` | A 10-digit NPI, instead of a `doctor_id`. |
| `detail` | `summary` (default) or `full`. |

## Errors

| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | A parameter is missing or invalid | The message names what to change. |
| 401 | Sign-in needed, or the key is not valid | Follow the OAuth metadata in the `WWW-Authenticate` header, or send a valid account key. |
| 429 | Rate limit or daily doctor allowance used up | Tell the person; the message says when it resets. |
| 503 | Busy or starting | Retry shortly. |

# Data and sources

Data version public-2026-10-13.2, built 2026-10-12T16:44:41Z. No private doctor rating, award or hospital ranking is included or counted in scores. Specialties come from each physician's NPI taxonomy code and CMS specialty, matched to the specialty names used here by their official names. The hospital and children's hospital websites we read were chosen partly from published lists.

## Sources

- NPPES NPI registry (September 2026)
- CMS Doctors and Clinicians national file (2026)
- Medicare Physician & Other Practitioners 2024 (by provider; by provider and service)
- Medicare Part D Prescribers 2024
- CMS Open Payments 2024-2025
- CMS Provider Data Catalog (facility affiliations, hospital ratings, MIPS 2024)
- OIG LEIE exclusion list (2026-09-10)
- CMS Medicare Opt Out Affidavits (August 2026 file, published 2026-09-21)
- NLM MeSH 2026
- NUCC Health Care Provider Taxonomy 26.1
- U.S. Census Bureau 2026 Gazetteer, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (distance search)
- Hospital systems' own 'find a doctor' websites (facts on doctor profile pages, read from 2026-10-08)

Every evidence line in a result names its source and the date of that source. Ask `about_database` (HTTP: `GET /api/v1/about`) for the same list with build dates.

## Coverage

| What | Doctors |
|---|---|
| US physicians with an active NPI record under a physician (MD or DO) taxonomy, not counting 32,172 records that are probably not physicians (see below). An NPI record does not show that a doctor is licensed or still practicing; state medical boards hold licenses. | 1,240,084 |
| With facts from their hospital system's own website | 279,954 |
| With a focus listed on a hospital website, as standard MeSH terms | 82,283 |
| With a Medicare 2024 volume in at least one of the 81 procedure groups | 88,666 |
| On the CMS Medicare opt-out list (flagged with a warning) | 13,948 |

Records registered under a physician taxonomy that are probably not physicians (nurse practitioners, physician assistants and similar) are left out of searches unless you search by name, and are then marked with a warning.

## What a doctor's evidence can hold

From official files, for every physician where the file has them:

- Registered specialty, practice locations and phone numbers, each with where the phone came from.
- Medical school and graduation year, hospital affiliations and medical group (CMS clinician file).
- Medicare 2024 patients and patient mix, and procedure volumes ranked against other doctors' Medicare 2024 volumes, nationally and by state. A rank compares Medicare volume only, not quality and not care paid by other insurers.
- Medicare Part D 2024 prescribing summary, and signals where claims lean clearly toward one condition's medicines (more such patients, not quality).
- Industry payments 2024–2025 and named principal investigator on industry-sponsored research (CMS Open Payments).
- MIPS 2024 score.
- Warnings: OIG federal exclusion list, CMS Medicare opt-out list.

From the doctor's hospital-system website, where we read a profile page:

- Focus areas as standard NLM MeSH terms (not the page's own wording), with a link to the page and the date we read it.
- Languages, education, board certifications, new-patient status, office phones and addresses.
- At some hospital systems, the page's list of insurers. It is a lead to confirm with the practice, not a network check.

## What an empty field means

An empty or missing field means we have no record of it, not "no". A doctor without a listed focus may still treat the condition; a doctor without a new-patient status may be accepting patients. Ask the practice.

## What is not here

- No private doctor ratings, awards or hospital rankings (see the note at the top).
- No patient reviews and no outcome measures for individual doctors. The only quality figure is the CMS MIPS 2024 score, which is usually reported for the whole practice group.
- No insurance network data from insurers, and no appointment availability.
- No patient records of any kind.

Corrections from doctors: [Corrections and removal](/us/corrections/).

# Limits

No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance. Searches return a free short list; opening a doctor's evidence with `get_doctor` counts toward a daily allowance. Days run on UTC.

| | With sign-in or an account key | Without an account |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Yes | Available: no sign-up, limited per network address as below. |
| Different doctors' evidence per day | 100 | 5 per network address |
| Requests per minute | 60 | 30 |
| Requests per day | 1,000 | 300 |

- Results per search: up to 10; paging stops at 30.
- Doctors per `get_doctor` call: up to 10.
- Opening the same doctor again the same UTC day does not count again.
- The service also has daily totals across all connections. When one is reached, the reply says so and when it resets.

When the daily doctor allowance runs out partway through a `get_doctor` call, the doctors that fit are returned, the rest are listed in `left_out`, and the reply starts with `daily_doctor_limit`, which says when the allowance resets. When a single doctor is asked for and nothing is left, the HTTP API answers `429` and MCP returns a tool error with the same message. Request rate limits also answer `429`, with `Retry-After`. An agent should tell the person, not retry in a loop.

Limits can change during testing. This page and [/llms.txt](/llms.txt) show the current values.

# Changelog

Service version 2026-10-15.1 · data version public-2026-10-13.2.

## Public test (from 2026-10-13)

- 2026-10-15: one MCP address for every country. `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp` now also serves New Zealand: decide the country first (ask the person when it is unclear), then pass `country` (`US` or `NZ`) to `search_doctors`, `list_specialties` and `about_database`; `get_doctor` reads the country from the doctor id. Without `country` it is the United States, so clients that connected before work as before. The New Zealand-only address `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp` and both HTTP APIs are unchanged.
- 2026-10-15: when a doctor has no published Medicare count for the procedure you searched, the result says why instead of leaving it blank: either the doctor billed Medicare fee-for-service in 2024 and CMS hid a count under 11 patients (so fewer than 11 or none), or the doctor has no 2024 Medicare fee-for-service record. Either way it is unknown, not zero. Search results carry this in `procedure_volume_2024` and `get_doctor` in `signature_procedures_note`. Ranking is unchanged.
- No sign-in needed at `https://api.findadoctor.si` (MCP and HTTP API): short lists are free; opening doctors' evidence has a daily allowance, see [Limits](/us/docs/limits/). An optional account key raises it.
- The `medicare_patient` description and the usage guide now say that Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans will not pay an opted-out doctor except for emergency or urgent care, as the doctor's WARNING already did.
- Official GitHub repository with setup guides, examples, the `findadoctor` Agent Skill and plugins for Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI: https://github.com/simonlin1212/findadoctor-mcp. Linked from the footer and the Quickstart.

## Private testing (2026-10-12 to 2026-10-13)

- Private testing at `https://api.findadoctor.si`: MCP and HTTP API with sign-in.
- Public data edition: official US records and facts from hospital-system websites only. No private doctor rating, award or hospital ranking is included or counted in scores. Specialties come from each physician's NPI taxonomy code and CMS specialty, matched to the specialty names used here by their official names. The hospital and children's hospital websites we read were chosen partly from published lists.
- Website and agent documentation: this site, `/llms.txt`, Markdown versions of every page, API catalog.
- Location searches use current addresses: an NPI registry address that is more than 60 miles from every address in the 2026 CMS clinician file and was not updated for over a year is no longer matched; `get_doctor` shows it as `old_npi_registry_address`.
- Email addresses are left out: an entry on a hospital-site page that contains one (some specialty and education lists carried staff email addresses) is dropped, and an email address inside a registry address is removed. Contact the practice by phone or through its website.
- The MCP server card says in `_meta` whether sign-in is required; the guides give the number of doctors with listed focus areas (about 82,000), not only the number with hospital-site facts.

# Corrections and removal

Last updated: 2026-10-15

This page is for doctors. If something we show about you is wrong, or you want details we read from your hospital's website removed, tell us and we will fix it.

## Where each fact comes from

- **Hospital-website details** (focus areas, languages, new-patient status, listed insurers, office phones): we can correct or remove these on request.
- **Federal records** are used as published. A change made at the source appears here after our next data release:
  - name, practice address and registered specialty in the NPI registry: update your [NPPES](https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/) record;
  - medical school, group and specialty in the CMS clinician file: update Medicare enrollment in [PECOS](https://pecos.cms.hhs.gov/); CMS lists which fields go where on its [Doctors and Clinicians data page](https://www.cms.gov/medicare/quality/physician-compare-initiative/about-data);
  - industry payments: review and dispute them with the reporting company in [Open Payments](https://www.cms.gov/openpayments);
  - Medicare 2024 patient, procedure and prescribing counts are what CMS published from claims and cannot be changed here.
- **Our own matching.** If we attached a record or a hospital page to the wrong doctor, that is our error and we fix it.

## How to ask

Email contact@findadoctor.si with:

- your NPI number;
- what is wrong, or what you want removed;
- where you saw it (the tool result or page link).

## How long it takes

We reply within 3 business days. Once we can confirm the request (we may check it against your hospital's own page or ask your office), we make the change within 14 days, or tell you why it needs longer. A removal stays in effect when we rebuild the data from new releases or new website reads. AI agents that already copied an answer may keep showing it until they search again.

**Patients:** we hold no patient records and cannot change medical records. For your own records, contact your doctor's office.

- MCP (Streamable HTTP), one address for every country: `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp`. Search with `country: "NZ"`; `get_doctor` reads the country from the `nz_` id. Decide the country first, and ask the person when it is unclear (a Hamilton could be in New Zealand or elsewhere).
- MCP for New Zealand only: `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp`
- HTTP API: `GET https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/search`, described in [openapi.json](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/openapi.json)

## What's inside

- about 7,800 doctors listed on Healthpoint, most with clinic address and phone: GPs, private specialists, and public-hospital doctors named on Health NZ service pages. 1,233 of them list their own focus areas or special interests.
- about 5,100 more practising doctors with a specialist scope other than general practice, from the Medical Council of New Zealand public register, with their specialty and, for most, since when, but no clinic details.
- Medical Council entries for 25,566 doctors: practising status, scope of practice, conditions on practice, and when each specialist scope was granted. Plus New Zealand honours (113), University of Auckland academic titles (118) and paper counts (2,733) as seniority signals.
- 1,020 general practices: whether they are taking new patients (561 say yes), fees by age and the GPs listed; and 66 urgent care clinics.
- Health NZ public waiting lists for 20 districts and 39 specialties: how many people wait for a first specialist assessment or planned treatment, and the share waiting over 120 days.

Data version nz-public-2026-10-15.5. Coverage and gaps: [data page](/nz/docs/data/).

## How an agent uses it

1. **Search** with `search_doctors`: a free short list for a condition, procedure, specialty, place or name, with how directly each doctor's own listing matches.
2. **Open the evidence** with `get_doctor`: listed focus areas, services and procedures, clinic addresses and phone numbers, fee categories, insurer notes and the Medical Council entry. Each different doctor opened counts toward a daily allowance.
3. **Need a GP?** `search_gp_practices` finds general practices by place that are taking new patients, with the fee for the person's age. Practices are not counted toward the daily allowance.
4. **Public or private:** `public_waitlist` shows how long the public queues are by district and specialty. Public care is free but needs a GP referral.
5. **Confirm with the clinic** and the insurer: fees, insurer cover (often prior approval) and availability are confirmed there, not here.

## What it is not

- **Not a quality rating.** Results are ordered by how directly the doctor's own listing matches the need, not by outcomes. No ratings, reviews or rankings are used. Years as a specialist, honours and titles are seniority, not skill.
- **Not every detail for every doctor.** Private surgical specialists have the fullest listings; for doctors only on the register there is no clinic, phone or focus area; individual GPs are found through their practice.
- **Facts are dated.** Every source is named with its read date. Call before you go.

# Quickstart

Two calls: search for a short list, then open the evidence for the doctors you are seriously considering. The MCP server and the HTTP API have the same tools and return the same JSON. This is the New Zealand service; the United States has its own at [/us/docs/](/us/docs/). One MCP address serves both countries.

No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance.

## 1. Connect

| | Address |
|---|---|
| MCP (Streamable HTTP), every country: pass `country: "NZ"` | `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp` |
| MCP (Streamable HTTP), New Zealand only | `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp` |
| HTTP API | `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/…` (GET, JSON) |
| OpenAPI 3.1 (parameters and response fields) | [https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/openapi.json](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/openapi.json) |
| MCP server card | [https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp/server-card](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp/server-card) |
| Guide for agents | [https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/llms.txt](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/llms.txt) |

MCP clients that support remote servers connect to either MCP URL above. No sign-in or key is needed. An optional account key (by invitation), sent as Authorization: Bearer, raises the daily allowance.

**With the address for every country, decide the country first**: where the person wants to see a doctor, from the place they mention or what you know about where they live. If nothing settles it (no place given, or a place name used in more than one country, such as Hamilton, with no other clue), ask the person before searching; do not guess, and do not search every country. Pass `country: "NZ"` to `search_doctors`, `list_specialties` and `about_database` (left out, they use the United States, for clients that connected before New Zealand was added). `get_doctor` reads the country from the `nz_` id. `search_gp_practices` and `public_waitlist` are New Zealand only and need no `country`. The New Zealand-only address needs no `country` at all.

[OpenAI's guide](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt).

**In Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and other MCP clients**: add a remote (Streamable HTTP) MCP server with the URL above.

## 2. Search

Give at least one of `need`, `specialty`, `place` or `name`. `need` is a condition, procedure or focus in plain English; `place` is a New Zealand city, suburb, or region or Health NZ district.

```text
GET https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/search?need=hip%20replacement&place=Christchurch
```

Each result has `doctor_id`, name, specialties, vocational scope, cities, sectors (`private`, `public`), `specialist_since` (the year the Medical Council first registered them as a specialist in New Zealand, when known), `recognition` (a New Zealand honour or a University of Auckland academic title, when there is one), `match_basis` (with a need: `stated_focus`, `services_listed`, `shared_service_listed`, `specialty`, `specialty_for_symptom`, `profile_text` or `partial`; `shared_service_listed` means only a hospital department or large group page the doctor is linked to lists it, so they may not do it themselves; `specialty_for_symptom` means the need is a symptom few doctors list, such as back pain or dizziness, and the doctor's specialty usually sees it), `place_match` (with a place: `city_or_address`; `city_in_region` when you gave a region or Health NZ district and the doctor's town is in it; `address_contains`, maybe a street name; or `region_page_only`, often a doctor visiting from elsewhere), `detail_has` (what `get_doctor` adds for this doctor) and, when there are any, `warnings` (for example not practising on the Medical Council register). Doctors who are only on the Medical Council register, with no Healthpoint listing, have `listing: "medical_council_register_only"`: their name, specialty and registration dates are known, but no clinic, phone, fees or focus areas, so search the web for where they practise. When a Healthpoint listing we could not match to the register and a register-only entry share a first and last name, both carry `possibly_same_person_as` (the other entry's `doctor_id`): they may be one doctor, so do not present them as two.

A trimmed example (the doctors' names and ids are made up; `…` marks shortened text):

```json
{
  "provider": { "name": "FindADoctor.si New Zealand", "url": "https://findadoctor.si/nz/", "data_version": "nz-public-2026-10-15.5" },
  "before_answering": "This is the free short list: who the doctors are, not the evidence. Before recommending anyone, call get_doctor …",
  "total_matches": 26,
  "offset": 0,
  "results": [
    {
      "rank": 1,
      "doctor_id": "nz_4k9m2x7qph3t",
      "name": "Dr Example Doctor",
      "kind": "Specialist",
      "specialties": ["Orthopaedics"],
      "vocational_scope": "Orthopaedic Surgery",
      "cities": ["Christchurch", "Timaru"],
      "sectors": ["private"],
      "match_basis": "stated_focus",
      "detail_has": ["7 focus areas they list", "clinic phone numbers and addresses", "Medical Council register entry"]
    }
  ],
  "next_step": "Call get_doctor with doctor_ids (up to 10 at once) for the doctors you are considering. …",
  "note": "Confirm phone numbers, fees, insurer status and availability with the clinic before booking. Not medical advice; in an emergency call 111."
}
```

Results are ranked first by how directly the doctor's own listing matches the need: doctors who list all its words, then (for a symptom) `specialty_for_symptom`, then doctors who list some of the words, then words only in profile text. Within each, results are ranked by `place_match`; with `experienced_first=true`, by `specialist_since` (earliest first) after that. Doctors only on the register come after all listed doctors. Not by quality or outcomes: years as a specialist are seniority, not skill. `need_note` names the specialties added for a symptom (a grouping by common sense, not a diagnosis), or says that no doctor lists all the words. When you search a town or suburb, `place_note` says how many more doctors match with the wider region as the place (in another town of the region, or only on Healthpoint's region page, often public-hospital doctors whose page names only the hospital) and which place to search to include them. With `specialty`, `specialty_read_as` lists the specialty names searched, and `specialty_note` explains when a child-specific wording was searched as the general specialty with `child=true`. Up to 10 results per search; paging stops at 30. Narrow the need or the place instead of paging.

## 3. Open the evidence

```text
GET https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/doctors?ids=nz_4k9m2x7qph3t,nz_8w2c5n1kd7ra
```

Up to 10 doctor ids per call. Without an account, each network address can open 5 different doctors' evidence a day; with an account key (by invitation), 100. Opening the same doctor again the same day is free. Doctors that do not fit in one reply come back under `not_returned_yet`, already counted, so ask again for them at no extra cost.

Each doctor can have: specialties, title and qualifications; focus areas and subspecialties they list; languages; whether their services see children; every private and public service with clinic addresses, phone numbers and websites, the procedures and conditions the service lists, fee categories, ages, hours and how to get referred; whether a service or the doctor's own page says Southern Cross Affiliated Provider or nib First Choice; the Medical Council register entry (status, scope of practice, conditions, practising certificate dates); and source links with read dates. The doctor's own profile text is not reproduced: give the person the Healthpoint link (`sources.healthpoint`).

> Phone numbers, fees and insurer status change. Tell the person to confirm them with the clinic, and cover with their insurer (often prior approval), before booking.

Each doctor can also have `experience`: every vocational scope with the date it was granted and years since, years as a specialist in New Zealand (provisional scopes not counted), earliest registration date on the register entry, primary medical degree year, New Zealand honours (with the list and citation), University of Auckland academic title and hospital appointments, and an approximate count of papers with a New Zealand affiliation in Europe PMC (with a link to the list). Seniority signals, not a measure of quality.

## 4. General practices

`search_doctors` is for specialists: general practitioners are left out unless you ask for the specialty General Practice. To find a GP, search practices instead:

```text
GET https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/gp-practices?place=Hamilton&enrolling=yes&age=34
```

Each practice has `enrolling` (`yes`, `restricted`, `no`, `does not apply` for urgent care, or `unknown`), its own note on who it takes, locations with phone numbers, the first fee table on the page, usually for enrolled patients (or with `age`, just the row for that age), online booking, hours and the GPs listed there. Each result's `kind` says what sort of practice it is (for example nurse-led, online, or a student health clinic). `kind=urgent_care` finds accident and urgent medical care and after-hours clinics. Practices are not doctors: searching them does not count toward the daily doctor allowance. Enrolment and fees change often, so tell the person to phone the practice.

## 5. Public waiting lists

```text
GET https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/waitlist?specialty=Orthopaedic&district=Canterbury
```

Health NZ figures by district and specialty, for the latest month and the same month a year earlier: people waiting for a first specialist assessment and for planned treatment, and the share waiting over 120 days. Useful when the person is weighing public against private care. Health NZ names some specialties differently in the two lists (for example Orthopaedics for a first assessment and Orthopaedic Surgery for treatment); asking for either returns both.

## Tools

| MCP tool | HTTP | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `search_doctors` | `GET /api/v1/search` | Free short list for a need, specialty, place or name. |
| `get_doctor` | `GET /api/v1/doctors?ids=…` or `/api/v1/doctors/{doctor_id}` | Evidence for up to 10 doctors. Counted per day. |
| `search_gp_practices` | `GET /api/v1/gp-practices` | General practices (or urgent care) by place: taking new patients or not, fees by age, GPs listed. Not counted. |
| `list_specialties` | `GET /api/v1/specialties` | Specialty names used here (Healthpoint categories) with doctor counts. |
| `public_waitlist` | `GET /api/v1/waitlist` | Health NZ public waiting lists by district and specialty. |
| `about_database` | `GET /api/v1/about` | Sources, read dates, coverage counts and known gaps. |

### search_doctors parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `need` | Condition, procedure or focus in plain English, e.g. `ACL reconstruction`, `endometriosis`, `cataract surgery`. Matched against the focus areas doctors list, then the procedures their services list, their specialty, and their own profile text and hospital web page (used for matching only, not shown). |
| `specialty` | A specialty name from `list_specialties`, a word from one, or a plain word, e.g. `orthopaedic`, `ENT`, `eye`, `skin`. Matched word by word (endings may differ, so `cardiologist` finds Cardiology; not fragments inside words); the reply's `specialty_read_as` lists the names searched. |
| `place` | A New Zealand city, suburb, or region or Health NZ district, e.g. `Christchurch`, `North Shore`, `Hawke's Bay`, `Capital and Coast` (the district names `public_waitlist` uses work). Macrons are optional (`Whangarei` finds Whangārei). |
| `name` | The doctor's name or part of it, to check a named doctor. Titles such as Dr or Prof are ignored and word order does not matter (`Dr Jane Smith` finds Jane Mary Smith); exact names come first. |
| `sector` | `any` (default), `private` (the doctor lists a private service) or `public` (a Health NZ service). |
| `child` | `true` when the patient is a child: among doctors in the same place who match the need equally well, those in paediatrics or who list children in their focus come first, then those whose services say they see children; doctors whose services list only adult ages are left out. Most listings do not say, so those doctors stay in. |
| `language` | A language other than English that the doctor or a small clinic lists, e.g. `Mandarin`, `Hindi`, `Samoan`. |
| `gender` | `female` or `male`. Only when the person asks. Gender is recorded for only a small share of doctors (when their Healthpoint page states it); the others are left out, and `gender_note` says how many. |
| `southern_cross_affiliated` | `true` keeps doctors whose own Healthpoint page or at least one of whose service pages says Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. Cover still depends on the policy. |
| `experienced_first` | `true` puts doctors who have been specialists longest first, among doctors who match the need and place equally well. Only when the person asks for an experienced or senior doctor. |
| `limit`, `offset` | Up to 10 results per page; paging stops at 30 results. |

### get_doctor parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `doctor_ids` | Up to 10 `doctor_id`s from search results (HTTP: `ids`, comma-separated). |
| `doctor_id` | One `doctor_id`. |

A doctor keeps the same `doctor_id` when the database is rebuilt, including when a doctor who was only on the Medical Council register is later found on Healthpoint. If an id does change, the old id still returns the doctor, and the reply's `id_changed` gives the current id to use from then on.

### search_gp_practices parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `place` | A New Zealand city, suburb or region, as for `search_doctors`. |
| `name` | Part of the practice's name. Give `place` or `name`. |
| `enrolling` | `any` (default), `yes` (taking new enrolments) or `yes_or_restricted` (also practices taking only some people). |
| `age` | The person's age (0 to 120): each practice shows only the fee row for that age. |
| `language` | A language other than English the practice lists. |
| `kind` | `gp` (default: general practices), `urgent_care` (accident and urgent medical care, after hours) or `any`. |
| `limit`, `offset` | Up to 10 practices per page. |

### public_waitlist parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `specialty` | e.g. `Orthopaedic`, `ENT`, `General Surgery`, `eye`. An exact name is matched first, then names that contain each word, then the same without words like "surgery" and with common plain words mapped (eye → Ophthalmology, heart surgery → Cardiothoracic, cardiologist → Cardiology, internal medicine → General Medicine), then part of a name; both of Health NZ's names for the same specialty are returned. |
| `district` | Health NZ district, e.g. `Auckland`, `Canterbury`, `Capital and Coast`. Part of a name also matches, so `Canterbury` includes South Canterbury. A city or region is read as its district (`Wellington` → Capital and Coast, `Dunedin` → Southern) and the reply's `district_read_as` says so. Macrons are optional. |

## Errors

| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | A parameter is missing or invalid | The message names what to change. |
| 401 | The account key is not valid | Send a valid key, or none. |
| 403 | A web page on another site asked for doctor details from a visitor's browser (`cross_site`) | Call from your agent or server, not from another site's page. |
| 404 | No doctor with that id | Use a `doctor_id` from a search. |
| 429 | Rate limit or daily doctor allowance used up | Tell the person; the message says when it resets. |
| 503 | Busy or starting | Retry shortly. |

Limits per connection: [Limits](/nz/docs/limits/). What the data holds and where it comes from: [Data](/nz/docs/data/).

Data version nz-public-2026-10-15.5, built 2026-10-15T05:39:31Z. Results are ranked by how directly the doctor's own listing matches the need, not by quality or outcomes. No ratings, reviews or rankings are used. New Zealand honours, academic titles, paper counts and years as a specialist are shown as facts; only years as a specialist can change the order, and only when the agent asks for experienced doctors first.

General practices: 1,020, of which 561 say they are taking new enrolments; and 66 urgent care or after-hours clinics.

Public waiting lists: 20 Health NZ districts and 39 specialties.

**Who is covered.** New Zealand had 21,097 practising doctors at 30 June 2026 (Medical Council of New Zealand, The New Zealand Medical Workforce in 2026, tables 1 and 16). We read the Medical Council's public register in full, so every doctor on it is in the database (20,990 practising when we read it). 36% of New Zealand's practising doctors have clinic details from Healthpoint (most of these listings give an address and a phone number; 107 give none of address, phone or city); the rest are on the register only, with no clinic or phone. Counting each specialist (vocational) scope, 40% of specialists other than GPs have clinic details.

Healthpoint lists private specialists who choose to be listed, so clinic details are most complete where private practice is common: plastic and reconstructive surgery 85%, ophthalmology 85%, orthopaedic surgery 81%, urology 77%, vascular surgery 74%. They are thinnest in musculoskeletal medicine 17%, palliative medicine 11%, psychiatry 6%, and for many public-hospital doctors. GPs have clinic details when their practice's Healthpoint page names them (65% of doctors with a general practice, urgent care or rural hospital scope). To find a practice, use `search_gp_practices`. When a search returns few doctors, an agent should say so and also search the web.

A Healthpoint listing whose name we could not match to one register entry with confidence stays separate from the register. The same doctor can then appear twice: once with clinic details and once as a register-only entry. Both entries carry `possibly_same_person_as`, and an agent should not present them as two doctors.

## What a doctor's evidence can hold

From the doctor's Healthpoint listing and the service pages it links to:

- Specialties, title and qualifications; the focus areas, special interests and subspecialties they list; further training; languages.
- Every private and public service: clinic addresses, phone numbers and websites; the procedures and conditions the service lists; fee categories and fee lines where given; ages seen; hours; how to get referred.
- Whether a service page or the doctor's own page says Southern Cross Affiliated Provider or nib First Choice, or a service mentions ACC. This is what the clinic says; cover depends on the person's policy and often needs prior approval.

From the Medical Council of New Zealand public register, when we could match the doctor:

- Practising status, scope of practice and vocational scope, conditions on practice, qualifications and practising certificate dates.
- When each vocational (specialist) scope was granted (and whether it is provisional, under supervision), the earliest registration date on the register entry and the year of the primary medical degree, as experience signals. Doctors trained overseas may have practised longer than this shows; a doctor who left New Zealand and registered again may show the later date.
- Matching is by name plus registration date or specialty. Name-only and uncertain matches are left out rather than guessed, so a missing register entry does not mean the doctor is unregistered: check the [register](https://www.mcnz.org.nz/registration/register-of-doctors/).

Other seniority signals, each matched to a register entry by name and only kept when the match is unambiguous:

- **New Zealand honours** (for example ONZM or MNZM) for services to medicine or health, with the list (New Year or Birthday Honours, year) and citation. An honour is not matched to a doctor whose register entry shows a degree less than 15 years before it (likely another person with the same name). Taken from Wikipedia pages that reproduce the official lists; the evidence links to the page.
- **University of Auckland** academic title (Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer) and the hospital appointments the profile lists. Other universities are not covered yet.
- **Papers**: an approximate count of Europe PMC records with the doctor's surname and first given name and a New Zealand affiliation, only when the doctor is matched to their register entry and no other doctor on the register has the same name. It includes letters and abstracts and may miss papers under another name.

## General practices

From each practice's Healthpoint page: whether it is taking new enrolments (and its own note on who), locations and phone numbers, the first fee table on the page (usually for enrolled patients), online booking, hours, languages and the GPs listed there. Mobile numbers, email and fax are not kept.

## What an empty field means

An empty or missing field means the listing did not say, not "no". A doctor without listed focus areas may still treat the condition; a service that does not mention Southern Cross may still be covered. Ask the clinic.

## What is not here

- The doctor's own profile text and private hospital website text are not reproduced. Their ordinary words are used to match searches; names of other people on those pages (practice staff, family) are left out of the search index. The evidence links to the pages.
- No fee amounts for most specialists (general practice fee tables are included), no procedure volumes, no outcomes, no private waiting times.
- No email addresses, fax or mobile numbers, photos or professional-society memberships.

# Limits

No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance. Searches, specialty lists and waiting lists are free; opening a doctor's evidence with `get_doctor` counts toward a daily allowance. Days run on UTC. The New Zealand service counts separately from the United States service.

| | With an account key | Without an account |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | By invitation during testing; there is no sign-up | Available: no sign-up, limited per network address as below. |

- Requests from the Claude and ChatGPT apps are recognised by the network addresses Anthropic and OpenAI publish, and share their own daily allowances.

This page and [https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/llms.txt](https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/llms.txt) show the current values.

# Corrections and removal (New Zealand)

Last updated: 2026-10-15

This page is for doctors in New Zealand. If something we show about you is wrong, or you want your listing removed from this service, tell us and we will fix it.

## Where each fact comes from

- **Healthpoint** (specialty, focus areas, services, clinic addresses and phone numbers, fees notes, insurer notes): we show what your Healthpoint listing said when we read it. Update your listing with Healthpoint and the change appears here after our next read; we can also correct or remove it here on request.
- **Medical Council of New Zealand register** (status, scope of practice, conditions, qualifications): shown as the register publishes it. Changes are made with the [Medical Council](https://www.mcnz.org.nz/).
- **Health NZ waiting lists** are published figures and cannot be changed here.
- **Our own matching.** If we attached a register entry, a service or a hospital page to the wrong doctor, that is our error and we fix it.

## How to ask

Email contact@findadoctor.si with:

- your name and Medical Council registration number;
- what is wrong, or what you want removed;
- where you saw it (the tool result or page link).

## How long it takes

We reply within 3 business days. Once we can confirm the request (we may check it against your Healthpoint listing or ask your clinic), we make the change within 14 days, or tell you why it needs longer. A removal stays in effect when we rebuild the data from new reads. AI agents that already copied an answer may keep showing it until they search again.

**Patients:** we hold no patient records and cannot change medical records. For your own records, contact your doctor's clinic.

# Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-15

FindADoctor.si runs read-only doctor directories that AI agents (such as Claude or ChatGPT) can search on a person's behalf, one per country:

- **United States:** the HTTP API at `https://api.findadoctor.si/api/v1/`;
- **New Zealand:** the HTTP API at `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/api/v1/` and a New Zealand-only MCP address `https://api-nz.findadoctor.si/mcp`;
- **One MCP address for every country:** `https://api.findadoctor.si/mcp`. It passes each request on to the service for the country asked for (or the country in the doctor id) and keeps nothing itself: no search terms and no network addresses. Its log records only the time, the response status, the type of request, the directory function used, the country and how long it took, for 14 days.

No sign-up. Short lists are free; full evidence has a daily allowance. This policy covers both and explains what happens to the information an agent sends us. Each country's service keeps its own accounts, limits and counts, in the same way. It is operated by Phoenix Tree under its Phoenix Tree AI brand.

## What we receive

A search can include a medical condition or procedure, a specialty, a place (a US city, state or ZIP code, or a New Zealand city, suburb or region), a doctor's name, and preferences such as language or whether the doctor sees children. We do not ask for, and an agent should not send, a person's name, date of birth, insurance member ID or anything else that identifies them.

Our server also sees the network address a request comes from, as every web server does. Requests that come through ChatGPT may also carry an anonymous user identifier that ChatGPT provides to services for rate limiting; it does not tell us who the person is.

**Accounts.** For each account we keep a random account number, a short label we use to recognise it (for example the name or email address given when access was requested), the date it was created and its daily limits. For each account key we keep a label naming the agent it is for, when it was created, when it expires and the date it was last used. Access codes and account keys are kept only in one-way hashed form, so we cannot read them back.

**Sign-in records.** When an AI app connects, we keep the app's name and the address it asked us to send the person back to. After sign-in we issue the app access keys, kept only in one-way hashed form with the account and app they belong to, the permission granted (read-only search) and when they expire.

## What we do with it

- **Search terms are used only to answer that request.** They are processed in memory and are not written to disk, logged or kept after the answer is sent.
- **Network addresses are not kept**, except as described for the error log below. To share the service fairly, the server keeps some information in memory only, never on disk:
  - per network address (IPv6 addresses grouped by /56), per ChatGPT user identifier (one-way hashed with a random value that changes every time the server restarts) and per account: the number of requests, the time spent searching, and which doctors' records were opened today, so that opening the same doctor again the same day is not counted twice. The list of doctors opened is cleared at 00:00 UTC every day;
  - per network address: open sign-in pages and wrong access codes.

  The server forgets a network address, user identifier or account 24 hours after its last request (15 minutes for wrong access codes; an open sign-in page expires after 10 minutes), and everything in memory is lost when the server restarts.
- **Daily totals.** For each account we write to disk, per day, the number of requests, the number of different doctors opened and whether the daily limit was reached, and keep these for 90 days. For the service as a whole we write, per day and per kind of connection (for example "account", "claude", "chatgpt" or "without an account"), the number of searches, detail requests and doctors opened. These totals contain no network address, user identifier or search terms, and are kept for up to 400 days to plan capacity and pricing.
- **Operational log.** For each request we record the time, the response status, the type of request, the directory function used (for example `search_doctors`), how long it took and the kind of connection, with a short code made by one-way hashing the network address with a random value that changes every time the server restarts, and, for a signed-in account, the first characters of the account number and which key was used (the key's own number, or that the sign-in was by browser). Because the random value changes, the code cannot be matched to the address later, but it can link requests made between two restarts. The log never contains search terms. It is kept for 14 days.
- **Web server error log.** Our web server records only serious errors. In rare cases an entry can include the network address of the connection that caused it (for example a broken encrypted connection). That log is deleted after 14 days.
- **How long sign-in records are kept.** Sign-in access keys last one hour; renewal keys last up to 30 days (180 days at most from sign-in). Expired keys are deleted within a day of expiry. Account keys for AI agents last 90 days unless agreed otherwise (at most one year); a cancelled key stops working at once, and account keys are deleted 30 days after they expire. App records unused for 90 days are deleted. An account is kept until its holder asks us to delete it or we close the service; email contact@findadoctor.si and we will delete it, with all its keys and daily totals, within 14 days of confirming the request. You can also ask us to sign out all your apps or cancel a key at any time.
- **This website** has no cookies, advertising, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other sites.
- We do not sell or rent any information, and we do not use requests to train AI models. We share it only with the providers that run the service (below), or when the law requires it.

Two providers run the service for us: Cloudflare serves these pages and carries requests to our server, and processes network addresses to deliver and protect the service under its own privacy policy; Alibaba Cloud hosts our server in the United States. Email sent to contact@findadoctor.si is forwarded by Cloudflare to the inbox we read, and kept there as long as needed to answer it.

## Where the doctor information comes from

The directories are built from public sources.

United States:

- NPPES NPI registry (September 2026)
- CMS Doctors and Clinicians national file (2026)
- Medicare Physician & Other Practitioners 2024 (by provider; by provider and service)
- Medicare Part D Prescribers 2024
- CMS Open Payments 2024-2025
- CMS Provider Data Catalog (facility affiliations, hospital ratings, MIPS 2024)
- OIG LEIE exclusion list (2026-09-10)
- CMS Medicare Opt Out Affidavits (August 2026 file, published 2026-09-21)
- NLM MeSH 2026
- NUCC Health Care Provider Taxonomy 26.1
- U.S. Census Bureau 2026 Gazetteer, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (distance search)
- Hospital systems' own 'find a doctor' websites (facts on doctor profile pages, read from 2026-10-08)

New Zealand:

- Healthpoint (healthpoint.co.nz): doctor listings, service pages and general practice pages
- Medical Council of New Zealand: public register of doctors (registration and specialist-scope dates)
- New Zealand honours lists, as reproduced on Wikipedia
- University of Auckland public staff profiles (academic title and appointments)
- Europe PMC: count of papers with a New Zealand affiliation
- Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora: waiting list data (CC BY 4.0)
- Private hospital websites (used to match searches; only links to the doctor's page are shown)

Each result says where its information came from and when it was collected. No private doctor rating, award or hospital ranking is included or counted in scores. Specialties come from each physician's NPI taxonomy code and CMS specialty, matched to the specialty names used here by their official names. The hospital and children's hospital websites we read were chosen partly from published lists. In New Zealand, results are ranked by how directly the doctor's own listing matches the need, and no ratings, reviews or rankings are used.

**Doctors:** if information about you is wrong, or you want it removed, see Corrections and removal for the [United States](/us/corrections/) or [New Zealand](/nz/corrections/).

## Medical disclaimer

The directory helps find and compare doctors. It is not medical advice and does not rate the quality of care. Always confirm insurance, availability and other details with the doctor's office. **In an emergency, call 911 in the United States or 111 in New Zealand.**

## Children

The service is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

## Where the service runs

The server that answers searches, for both countries, is in the United States. Searches about New Zealand doctors are processed there too.

## Changes and contact

If we change this policy we will update the date above and note it in the [changelog](/us/changelog/). Questions: contact@findadoctor.si.
