# Data and sources

Data version fr-public-2026-10-16.3, built 2026-10-16T01:57:36Z. Results are ranked by how directly the doctor's own data matches the need, not by quality or outcomes. No ratings, reviews or rankings are used, and industry declarations never change the order.

## Coverage

The RPPS register is France's official register of health professionals. We include every doctor in its open-data extract who has a practice or an active record. Counts are of doctors in the database.

| What | Doctors | Share |
|---|---|---|
| All doctors in the database | 275,171 | |
| In the RPPS register | 266,946 | |
| Only in the Assurance Maladie directory | 8,138 | |
| Only on a hospital page (not matched to either register) | 87 | |
| With a practice phone number | 204,876 | 74% |
| With an Assurance Maladie fee category for at least one practice | 124,158 | 45% |
| With official extra competences or university diplomas (DU/DIU) | 49,045 | 18% |
| With a Maiia or hospital profile page | 10,163 | |
| Stating their own expertise or procedures | 5,844 | 2.1% |
| Listing a language other than French | 1,840 | |
| With Transparence Santé declarations matched | 147,309 | 54% |

### By kind of doctor

Doctors registered only as general practitioners: 109,829, of whom 4,258 (3.9%) state their expertise.

Doctors with any other specialty: 150,009.

| Specialists | Doctors | Share |
|---|---|---|
| With a profile page | 4,479 | 3.0% |
| Stating their own expertise | 1,586 | 1.1% |
| With official extra competences or diplomas | 26,721 | 18% |
| With a fee category | 62,924 | 42% |

15,333 doctors have no specialty recorded.

### What this means for an agent

**Most specialists have only official data here:** specialty, practice addresses and phones, and fee category. Their expertise is not stated in the sources we can read. Doctolib, where most French doctors take bookings, is not included, and neither are the pages of AP-HP (the Paris public hospitals).

When a search returns few doctors with stated expertise, an agent should say so and also search the web. `specialty_usually_treats` results are doctors in the right specialty, not doctors who have said they treat the condition.

**Fee categories** cover mostly doctors in private practice. Hospital-only doctors usually have none.

## What a doctor's evidence can hold

From the RPPS register and the Ameli directory:

- **Identity and training:** the RPPS number, official specialties, official extra competences (capacités, orientations and similar) and university diplomas (DU/DIU, extra training, not a specialty).
- **Practice modes:** self-employed (libéral), salaried, or both.
- **Every practice:** address, phone, setting, role, the fee category at that practice, and the FINESS number for a hospital site.

When the doctor has a Maiia page or a page on one of the six hospital websites:

- **Stated expertise** and the procedures offered.
- **Hospital details:** department and role, and qualifications.
- **Practical details:** languages, consultation fees, online booking and video consultations, and whether online booking is open to new patients (inferred from the booking settings).

### Transparence Santé

Drug and device companies must declare their agreements with doctors, the benefits they give them (meals, travel, congress fees) and payments for work. We show these declarations in `get_doctor` (`industry_links`), grouped by year, kind, company and purpose, with amounts as declared. They are not evidence of expertise or of wrongdoing.

- **How they are matched:** 2,525,362 declarations are matched to 147,309 doctors. Most matches use the RPPS number. A few use name plus practice place, and these are counted separately in the reply.
- **What the licence asks:** the dataset gives its licence as CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, with reuse limited to the transparency purpose of the public database and no commercial use, in line with the French Data Protection Act (loi n° 78-17). Identifying data must also be kept out of external search engines.
- **How we meet it:**
  - Phoenix Tree runs this service free of charge and does not use these data commercially;
  - the figures are shown as declared, only in a doctor's detail, and are never used to rank or filter;
  - the API and MCP endpoints are closed to search engines by robots.txt, and HTTP API responses also carry `X-Robots-Tag: noindex`;
  - derived summaries are shared under the same licence.
- **If you pass them on:** keep the source, the download date and the licence, and do not use them commercially.

## Hospital procedure volumes

Open CCAM (ATIH) comes from the national hospital discharge database (PMSI, medicine, surgery and obstetrics). For each hospital site (FINESS géographique), CCAM procedure code and year (2021–2025), it gives:

- the number of stays and how many times the procedure was done;
- the average length of stay;
- the share done as day cases.

1,600 sites are included.

- **What is left out:**
  - rows with fewer than 11 stays are not published;
  - procedures done in a doctor's office or a hospital outpatient clinic are not counted.
- **Hospital names** are the most common name for that FINESS number in the RPPS practice addresses; some sites have no name.
- **Volumes are per hospital.** They do not say which surgeon operates.

## What an empty field means

An empty or missing field means the source did not say, not "no". A doctor without stated expertise may still treat the condition. A doctor without a listed language may still speak it. Ask the practice.

## What is not here

- **Profile text** written on Maiia and hospital pages is not reproduced (the evidence links to the pages). Neither is the first free online slot seen when we read the page: it goes stale fast.
- **Other sources:** no Doctolib or AP-HP pages, and no patient reviews.
- **Waiting times and appointment availability:** not included.
- **Per-doctor procedure volumes:** not included.
- **Personal contact details:** no e-mail addresses, mobile numbers, secretaries' names or photos.
- **Memberships:** no union or learned-society memberships.
- **Search index:** doctors' names are not in the search index (use `name` to check a named doctor).
- **Patient records:** none of any kind.
